I am slightly embarrassed to admit that the only subscription box I currently receive every month is a BarkBox (which are awesome by the way!). I may have totally forgotten my dogs’ birthday a while back, but I definitely make up for it every month when the BarkBox arrives on our doorstep. 😉 I have always loved the idea behind subscription boxes, as it is such a great way to discover and sample new products. However, over the last eight months, I have really been diligent about reading labels on products before I purchase them, which isn’t exactly possible with subscription boxes as the products are usually a surprise. So when The Home Detox Box reached out to me about their all natural, non-toxic subscription box, I was so excited! Today, I’m going to be reviewing what’s inside my July/August box!
Babo Botanicals Clear Zinc Sunscreen SPF 30 – Aside from my charm and witty personality, my kids also inherited my extremely fair skin, so you can probably imagine that we go through a lot of sunscreen on Ladera! I have been keeping this Babo Botanicals Sunscreen in my diaper bag as it is the perfect size for when you are on the go. I love the consistency of this sunscreen as it is semi-fluid in that it is very easy to rub in without being greasy at all, which is one of my pet peeves of sunscreen. I should also point out that a little goes a long way so just be sure to squeeze out a little at a time.
E-Cloth Glass & Polishing Cloths – Last fall, I purchased a really fab Jonathan Adler acrylic and brass side table. I knew it wasn’t the best idea with toddlers because of fingerprints, but I didn’t think it would be that bad…or at least I told myself that as the piece was too pretty to resist! But apparently my children have also inherited my love for eclectic furniture as the table is covered with fingerprints, almost daily! #ThisIsWhyWeCantHaveNiceThings 😉 I am constantly having to wipe down the glass surface of the table, so I knew these would be put to great use. When I first pulled them out of the box, I didn’t realize that aside from being polishing cloths, they also remove over 99% of bacteria, which is a must have as we get ready to head back to school. They also eliminate the need for cleaners as they are from E Cloths ‘water-only’ collection. This is such a fast and easy way to tackle fingerprints, watermarks, and smudges from all shiny surfaces.
Birchrose & Co. Sun Mist, Lavender and Aloe – This ‘after sun’ skin soothing spray is quite the treat on a hot summer day! I personally don’t stay in the sun long enough to ever get sunburned, but for those of you who frequent the pool more, this is the perfect way to relieve sun exposed skin as it is infused with lavender and aloe. I love using this after a day of running errands or even after a long shoot as it is very refreshing and smells heavenly!
Made with Love – Reusable Organic Cotton Flannel Rounds and Muslin Herb Bag – I was really excited about these when I opened up the box as I hadn’t ever come across a product like this. The pamphlet included with the box stated that “According to the EPA, each American generates on average 4.4 pounds of waste every day” which is crazy to think about. These are perfect for removing makeup or applying toner. After using them, all you have to do is throw them in a mesh laundry bag to wash. They are meant to last for hundreds of uses!
Unearth Melee Organic Soaps Black Pepper Charcoal Detox Soap – I have been a longtime user of charcoal masks, but for whatever reason haven’t ever incorporated it into my daily shower routine, so I was really excited to try this product. Charcoal is meant to help draw out impurities, unclog pores and eliminate acne. This soap is infused with clementine and black pepper essential oils for a perfectly invigorating sweet and spicy scent. One really neat part about this soap is that it is wrapped in flower-seeded paper. All you have to do is soak the wrapper in water, plant and then watch the flowers grow. I am definitely planning to do this with the kids one day!
Mama Suds All Purpose Cleaner Spray – I was a little nervous to test this one out as the makers of this product say that this cleaner is so effective that it will make you want to clean everything in your house. 😉 I don’t exactly know how or why but I kid you not, when we were opening the box, Charlotte kept asking if she could clean the house. My photographer and I could not stop laughing as she would not put it down. I’ve never seen her so excited about cleaning. I am going to leave this product on the kitchen counter for a few days to see if it has the same effect on my husband! 😉
Also included in the box is a pamphlet with information on all of the products. On the back, I love that they include a lifestyle tip which includes extra ways to incorporate the products into your everyday routine.
It’s no secret that there is so much to learn when it comes to leading a non-toxic lifestyle, so I love that the handout also includes a ‘Fact of the Month’ section. This month, they focus on Oxybenzone, which is one of the most commonly used chemical ingredients in sunscreen products. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the most toxic), Oxybenzone is rated an 8 by the Environmental Working Group. I’ve always known that Oxybenzone was a no-no when it came to sunscreen ingredients, but to be totally honest, I didn’t realize that it was this bad until I saw this handout!
The bi-monthly subscription is $54.95 and will include 3-6 full sized products in every box. You can get $10 off your first box by using code STACEY at checkout!
I also wanted to mention that The Home Detox Box also just recently launched a beauty box for $24.95. The Mini Box includes 2-3 green beauty and cosmetic products worth over $50. You can subscribe by going to their site here.
